TSA: Useful or Useless?

Today is 9/11, it's been 13 years since the attacks that changed the nation. The US has changed so much from the attacks. More than 130 pieces of legislation have been passed since 2001, and more than 263 government agencies have been created, including the Department of Homeland Security.

A huge impact of the attacks in 2001 are their change to air travel. Now every time you go through a US airport, you either have to get a pat down or go through those full body scanners. The TSA claims that it's to stop and prevent against terrorists, but do they really?

According to Bloomberg, the TSA has not caught a single terrorist with their full body scanners. Wow, that's what $900 million dollars has achieved. The TSA claims that this is because the body scanners are actually preventing terrorists from attempting to bomb planes, but is that true? Terrorist bombers feel so strongly about their cause that they're willing to die for it. Would a couple of electronic scanners at an airport really stop them if they really wanted to commit another act of terror?

What do you think? Is the TSA essential to the defense of this nation, or can some security measures be done away with?

  1. As much as I dislike going through airport security maybe the TSA has a point with their new scanners. Maybe the much more effective equipment has scared terrorists away from US airports and made air travel safer for everyone. Even if the full body scanners were expensive they give me peace of mind in the air.
