Guantánamo Bay, In the Middle of Chicago?

Recently I read this article that was really relevant to what we were learning in class. It was about "black sites" in Chicago. Places where the police take people they want to accuse, and lock them up. People in these "black sites" are denied any civil liberties whatsoever and are often beaten or tortured.

This raises a very serious concern. Is the government still infringing Civil Liberties today? Are we still living in a Perilous Time?

I'd argue that, yes, we are living in a Perilous Time. The government restricts our rights in many ways. A prime example is Edward Snowden. He released NSA documents that showed that the NSA was wiretapping and spying on people's phones. Instead of being hailed as a hero for letting the American people know what the government is doing to them, he was accused of being a traitor and had to seek asylum in Russia.

One quote from the article that really struck me was, "At least one man was found unresponsive in a Homan Square 'interview room' and later pronounced dead." This was really scary because it shows how badly the police are treating people in these sites. How little regard they have for human life, to let someone die in their custody. It's one violation of Civil Rights to deny someone their right to an attorney (6th amendment) and restricting habeas corpus, but it's another all together to let someone die whilst under questioning.

So what do you think? Is the Chicago Police bringing Guantanamo Bay into Chicago?
